A New Reformation

Christian culture is shifting in a myriad of ways to embrace the idea that the Gospel is bigger than personal salvation. We are beginning to see that its scale encompasses institutions, cities, and nations.

We are not talking about The Church swallowing up these spheres, but that God cares about nations. His truth is not confined to how we do church and how we live our individual lives but expands to how nations function. We are not looking to create, or at least we ought not be looking to create, another Christendom, but an expansion of the Kingdom into all spheres of society. There is a difference. The Authority of Scripture

The worldview of the Bible is the worldview of Jesus. They are not in conflict. The Bible is the truth because Jesus is the Truth. The Bible is the written revelation and Jesus is the person of Truth Himself to which the Bible points. (Post) Modern Christian authors are confused into thinking God is in conflict with His words where no such conflict exists. The conflict that exists is the university training these Christians have conflated with truth and applied to the Bible to judge it and rewrite it.

The Bible isn’t subjected to human culture – it is that revealed truth which transforms human culture. In a world of myth, it came forth as history. In a world of gods, only the Scriptures spoke of the one true holy God not made by human hands. He alone is the God who is not silent. These very same Scriptures from Genesis to Revelation have given us the modern world. Its truth has developed the previous undeveloped world. Continue reading “The Authority of Scripture”

The Bible in the PostModern World

We cannot have truth without revelation. Without revelation all claims to truth are equally valid or invalid human inventions. No one can claim one idea as superior to another because all are equally human and who is to say one human’s thoughts about the world are any better than the next person’s?

However, God did not leave us in confusion. He provided us with revelation which is found in one book, the Bible. The Bible is real truth. It is “true truth” to borrow from Francis Schaeffer. Its author is God and its writers are people who wrote down what the Lord inspired them to write. It is true history. It is true science. It is true testimony. God really said what it says He said. He really did what it says He did. He really will do what it says He will do.

bench-1868070_960_720We have history and science today because the Bible gives us the foundation for these disciplines to grow in stable ground. The idea that we can measure, catalog, and classify the natural world is a creation of the Bible’s impact on our thinking. If we do not know our history we will make the grave mistake in thinking that we have always thought this way. When we think our thinking common sense, we will not work to preserve this special knowledge in our culture. Continue reading “The Bible in the PostModern World”

Christians: A People Who Change Nations

The Christian life encompasses the whole life of a person. In a society where Christians are the minority, their lives, when lived in accordance with biblical Christianity, will look radically different than their neighbors. In a post-Christian nation such as America, Christians fail to consider that the Bible affects every area of our life because American life has long been lived on auto-pilot. The remnants of Christian living, still found in our society, are now considered common sense. When someone fails to live up to those standards, we believe they have taken leave of their senses. Or we think the offender is intentionally rejecting the right way of life that everyone else knows to be right. It is far more likely in this day in age that the offenders of common sense are ignorant of it, because sense is not common.

The way of life did not evolve into modern civilization any more than a collection of atoms spontaneously exploded and produced the universe. The Western world is a95 theses & Protestant Reformation product of the Protestant Reformation and subsequent reformers who utilized the Bible as their guide as to how life should be lived. Out of this biblical way of life grew science, history, political science, justice, medicine, hospital care, the rule of law, orphanages, schools, universities, free commerce, and the nuclear family. Once the ball got rolling it gained enough momentum to sustain itself even when its foundation faded into the lost annals of history. Continue reading “Christians: A People Who Change Nations”
