On Writing

writing-ppcI am passionate about writing. I’ve loved writing from a young age. I still have my handwritten attempts at writing a Nancy Drew novel as well as my attempt at a Star Trek novel. However, today I write non-fiction along with an occasional poem. I’m the girl who loved essay assignments in college. I signed up for every writing intensive course I could find. I was often disappointed that the classes were not challenging enough. I wanted to be pushed to grow in skill and technique. Continue reading “On Writing”

It’s Not Just About Me & Jesus

The problem with the me and Jesus Gospel is that it is all about me – it is about Jesus – but my Jesus. It’s about my personal experience with Jesus. It is about my going to heaven when I die. It’s about you – only in that it is about your personal relationship with Jesus and you going to heaven when you die. It’s about me living in a way that honor’s Jesus, but it isn’t about me living in a way that loves my neighbor for my neighbor’s sake.

We say it’s all about Jesus. And while that is true — it’s not true usually in the way we mean it. There is an entire narrative of Scripture that is leading up to a whole new world. A new Kingdom full of new creations in Christ.  Continue reading “It’s Not Just About Me & Jesus”

The Relationship of Truth and Love

truth-in-loveTruth and love have a symbiotic relationship. You cannot have one without the other less we confuse truth with facts. You can have true facts without love – in the church this looks like religion. Truth is a Person. Jesus lived is a fact of history. Jesus lives is a truth of eternity. His life is the great message of love. Jesus is the expression to the world that God is love. For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, Jesus . . .

Truth, by its very nature, is exclusive of all that is false. Jesus being the way, the truth, and the life, means that all other like claims are false. Jesus doesn’t give life, He is life. He gives Himself. Jesus doesn’t show us the way, He is the way. Jesus is not just a truth teller, He is Truth. Jesus excludes that which is not Jesus from being the truth. Buddha, Vishnu, Mohammed, Zeus, and the Flying Spaghetti Monster are all excluded.

Love, by its very nature, is inclusive – For God so loved the world.  . .  Continue reading “The Relationship of Truth and Love”

Nations, Empires, Globalism . . .

American-Flag-Government-PaWhat is a nation and why does it matter? Nations are a biblical idea. Empires are a worldly idea. But today we face a new challenge, globalism. Globalism is a secularist idea derived from a perversion of Christian ideals.

God promised Abraham to make him the father of many nations. Israel was the first prototype nation. As a nation, Israel would bless many nations.

A nation is one people, united under one language, government, and occupying one land. A nation has borders. The land without those borders does not belong to it. The land within the borders does not belong to the nations outside of it. Continue reading “Nations, Empires, Globalism . . .”

Where is your hope?

235065a3c5a39e64e7fb49673014c0ffThere is hope for America no matter who is elected come November 8. The White House may be the seat of political power, but it is not the seat of the Lord’s power. The seat of the Lord’s power is in our churches. The power to transform our nation is the same power that birthed our nation. It’s the same power that fueled The Reformation 499 years ago.

Initially there was no American government to give freedom to America. The people learned to govern themselves in freedom from the Bible. It was from that place of freedom that our Founders wrote a Constitution to protect this nation from abuses of such freedom. Continue reading “Where is your hope?”

Theology Is For You

theologyJust because we believe in Jesus, does not automatically mean that we think like Jesus. We believe in Truth, we also need to think with truth.

Theology is not for the intellectual professors and theologians. It’s not for the people who like to read thick books. It is for every Christian. It is for every area of life. The way you think is the way that you go.

Theology is thought about God and life that has been carefully constructed by aid of revelation, nature, and reason. Good theology should be in line with the Bible (revelation), science (nature), and clear right thinking (reason). Continue reading “Theology Is For You”

8 Things to Consider Before Watching Tonight’s Presidential Debate

dog-watching-tvThe nation will be tuning in to watch the first Presidential Debate tonight. Chances are most of us have already chosen who we will vote for. For many of us the debate is more like a boxing ring to see how well our candidate of choice will dominate the floor.

There is a segment of the population that will be chagrined at the election of either nominee. Their candidate of choice will not be on the platform tonight. Others are fearfully voting one way to avoid voting another. Some people are firmly aligned with one candidate or the other.

Regardless of what group we are a part of, we can apply a few guiding principles when watching the Presidential debates. Continue reading “8 Things to Consider Before Watching Tonight’s Presidential Debate”

Rekindling Hope in a Dark World

light-of-the-worldThe Western world has run amok, but I am not going to react to it. We have all heard of the violent acts in Florida, Dallas, France, Baton Rouge, Germany, and now Florida again.

The best thing I can do in response is to stay the course that God has called me to travel. I will continue teaching people to honor those in authority and to respect all people regardless of race, class, gender, or religion. I will not become reactive, distracted, or intolerable in response to current events.

Before the families have been notified, social media surges with political opinions and demands. We can denounce such violence all we want, but it will not stop it.

Frankly, I am more concerned with the responses and lives of Christians in this nation than I am the damage wrought by terrorism. Continue reading “Rekindling Hope in a Dark World”

Breaking Free of Facebook

a.aaa-Even-The-Cats-Use-Facebook-Facebook is not real. It does not give us a real picture of real life. It is manufactured. It is an imitation of socializing. It provides a false sense of community. It provides a daily dose of drama. It can also provide amusement, social networking, and helpful information. But it often takes more than it gives.

Topics of great import fade away as quickly as a summer thunderstorm. They clamor for attention with mighty displays of hype and drama only to be replaced by the next storm unleashing its fury against our walls. One day it is threats of missiles from North Korea, the next day it is the war in the Ukraine, then it is the horrific acts of ISIS, then it is the sale of baby parts by Planned Parenthood, then it is Cecil the Lion, then bathroom laws, then a Gorilla takes center stage for a few days. Now it’s Orlando and with it the hotly debated Second Amendment. As each matter demands our attention the last one fades into obscurity. Continue reading “Breaking Free of Facebook”
